Venezuela Refineries Using Non-Venezuelan Crude
Two refineries in the US owned by Venezuela's Citgo are increasingly using non-Venezuelan crude oil, says vessel-tracking firm ClipperData. That might mean Venezuela's using more of what it sends to US for cash sales, while using other output to meet obligations to China from its oil-for-cash loans. Citgo refineries in Texas and Louisiana have been "pulling in mostly Latin American barrels (think: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador) and West African barrels (Angola, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon) this year, while the overall share of Venezuelan crude continues to be marginalized," it says, noting Citgo refineries accounted for 14% of Venezuelan flows to the US in June vs 26% last year.
