Industrialization Driving India's Booming Oil Demand
[Dow Jones] Industrialization is likely to be the main driver behind India's surging demand for oil, says Bernstein Research, noting distillate products such as bitumen and asphalt as well as diesel account for over 50% of the demand growth. Looking forward, increase in manufacturing and construction of transportation infrastructures will keep India's oil demand elevated. The firm also notes an increase in per capita GDP will fuel growth in automobile consumption and air passenger traffic. Moreover, although subsidies were removed for petroleum products, prices have declined. The firm says over the coming 25 years, China will remain the most important country for oil demand growth, but by 2040, India will likely be the largest contributor to global growth, with demand expected to increase by 6 million barrels a day.
