Offshore Oil Output Buoys US Production
While a continued drop in oil-rig activity in places like Texas and North Dakota suggests crude output from once-prolific shale formations is declining, ClipperData's Matt Smith say today that offshore output is the new problem keeping oversupply (and thus cheap oil prices) alive. "What's hugely interesting in these 3Q earnings is that production is holding up in the US not because of shale production per say but rather these big Gulf of Mexico projects coming online," he tells CNBC. Chevron, Noble Energy and others have noted GOM advances in recent days.
