OPEC Deal Likely Better Observed By Members This Time Around
[Dow Jones] Even though OPEC members are known to produce beyond the limit of their allotted quotas, the opportunities for cheating this time around are "somewhat reduced by the fact that most likely unfaithful suspects are either already exempted or already seeing their production trending downwards due to internal problems," says RBC Capital in a note. It also says OPEC's decision to cut 1.2 million barrels a day with Saudi Arabia shouldering a major portion of the reduction will be well received by the Saudi public as higher oil prices will provide some economic relief. "Oil in the $50s will also help the Kingdom avoid costly credit ratings downgrades as it ramps up borrowing," the firm says.
