OPEC Production Deal Won't Help Glut
0411 GMT [Dow Jones] OPEC's plan to cut the group's production will have little impact on the global glut simply because it probably won't happen, says Gao Jian, an energy analyst at SCI International. Gao says longstanding feuds among OPEC members means that no one country will be willing to take the hit in terms of cutting production. Furthermore, there is ample room for cheating on quotas--he says members are known not to be forthright about their real production levels. Those countries that had to cut production in the past few months due to militant attacks will also be keen to pick up production.
