U.S. Crude Oil Inventories Unexpectedly Decline
By Dan Molinski
U.S. crude oil stockpiles surprisingly fell for the week ended Sept. 23 even as refining activity decreased, according to data released Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.
Crude-oil stockpiles declined by 1.9 million barrels to 502.7 million barrels, though they are at historically high levels for this time of year, the EIA said. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had predicted supplies would rise by 3.1 million barrels on the week.
Oil stored at the Cushing, Okla., delivery point for U.S. stocks, decreased by 631,000 barrels to 62.1 million barrels, the EIA said in its weekly report.
