Statoil Swings to Net Profit Amid Cost Cuts

OSLO--Norway's Statoil ASA (STO) said Thursday it swung to a first-quarter net profit as weaker oil prices were partly offset by cost cuts and $308 million in impairment reversals.

The company said its net profit for the three months through March was $607 million, compared with a net loss of $4.58 billion a year earlier, when it recorded huge write-downs. Analysts had expected a net loss of $115 million. Revenue fell 34% on the year to $10.09 billion, against expectations of $11.56 billion.
