Iran Petroleum Contract Gets Final Approval
The long-awaited Iran Petroleum Contract has received final approval from the government's Regulations Adjustment Panel, state-owned oil news service Shana reports. The new contract, designed to entice foreign investment in over 30 oil and gas fields offered up by Iran, will replace a buyback system. The buyback contract was viewed as unattractive by foreign investors because it limited the operating time for foreign companies in the country. The IPC could more closely resemble a production-sharing contract, which previous Iranian governments have resisted. The IPC is scheduled to be unveiled to investors at a conference in London in February.
