OPEC Demand Revision Shouldn't Move Market
OPEC forecasting oil demand will rise to 1.5 million barrels a day this year has been credited as being the primary tailwind behind U.S. benchmark WTI breaking the $50 barrier in the last 24 hours. Abdalla el-Badri's statement to the International Monetary and Financial Committee in Peru is taken almost word-for-word from the OPEC Sept. 15 bulletin, indicating headlines are again moving the markets rather than any underlying fundamentals. The demand forecast from OPEC is higher than the September estimate by 40,000 b/d, roughly equating to the total crude production of Spain.
