JAKARTA- Indonesia expects the Masela Abadi natural gas project currently being developed by Japan's Inpex and Royal Dutch Shell, to commence commercial production in 2024, an official at the oil and gas regulator (SKKMigas) said, two years behind an earlier target.
The government expects to decide on Oct. 10 whether to proceed with existing plans to make an offshore floating LNG production plant or to develop a land-based LNG plant onshore connected to the Masela gas fields via a pipeline, SKKMigas deputy chairman Zikrullah told reporters on Wednesday.
The government is targeting to have a final investment decision on the project in 2018, Zikrullah added.
In March, another government official said the country expected the project to commence production in 2022, amid delays due to lower oil prices and regulatory hurdles.
