OPEC Deal Unlikely to Solve Price Crisis
The diplomacy between major oil producers is starting to ramp up ahead of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries' meeting on Nov. 30, and optimism is once again rising that a deal can be brokered. Norbert Rucker, head of commodities research at the Zurich-based Julius Baer bank, says OPEC knows it has to deliver something if it is to retain any credibility. However, he adds he remains skeptical that a deal would be able to substantially improve oil prices as any uptick would re-ignite U.S. shale oil production.
