OPEC Still Some Way From Natural Output Level

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries should abandon its pledge to cut production and wait until it hits its natural output level, says Bjarne Schieldrop from Sweden's SEB bank. In a note, the analyst says the low prices of the last two years have created greater demand for crude, and OPEC's current output suggests 35.5-36 million barrels a day of output could be the natural level for the cartel. He adds that this means OPEC would fare better keeping prices low to ensure the extra output can be absorbed at the expense of higher-cost oil.
