U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles Surprisingly Rise

U.S. crude oil stockpiles unexpectedly rose in the week ended Aug. 19, according to data released Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.
Crude-oil stockpiles rose by 2.5 million barrels to 523.6 million barrels, the EIA said. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had predicted supplies would fall by 200,000 barrels on the week.
Oil stored at the Cushing, Okla., delivery point for U.S. futures, rose by 400,000 barrels to 64.9 million barrels, the EIA said in its weekly report.
Gasoline stockpiles were unchanged at 232.7 million barrels. Analysts were expecting inventories to decline by 1.4 million barrels from the previous week.
