North Sea Oil Operations Unaffected by UK Vote
Britain's vote to leave the EU won't have a big effect on UK offshore oil production, two large Canadian producers with North Sea operations say. "We don't think it's going to fundamentally change our view on the assets," Suncor (SU.T) EVP Kristopher Smith says at a TD Securities conference in Calgary. Smith says the pound's drop after the Brexit vote has been a plus for profit margins on North Sea crude since oil is priced in US dollars. Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.T) EVP Lyle Stevens says there would be no short-term effect, but "longer-term, there could be some complications if Scotland wants to exit the UK." Suncor produced 72K barrels of oil equivalent per day from North Sea operations in 1Q while Canadian Natural produced 23K barrels of crude oil a day.
