Low Oil Prices Have Knock-on Effect on Japan, IMF Says
Lower oil prices have had a knock-on negative effect on the Japanese economy, despite the country being a net importer of oil, according to a report from the International Monetary Fund. Japan has been adversely affected by the slowdown in growth in emerging markets and volatility in financial markets, driven partly by weak commodity prices. This slowed investment and consumption in Japan. Additionally, weaker growth in Japan has affected markets, such as liquefied natural gas, where Japan is a major consumer.
