US Government Could Sell Oil Later This Year

The US government might sell barrels out of its strategic petroleum reserve this year, which could pressure oil prices, ClearView Energy Partners says. Congress passed two laws that require sales from the Department of Energy's strategic reserve, and other bills are pending that would use SPR sales to raise money. Some analysts argue that the reserve, which stands at nearly 700M barrels, is bigger than the country needs for energy security because the US produces more oil than it used to.
