Vietnam to Become Net Importer of Crude by 2019: BMI Research
[Dow Jones] Declining domestic crude output amid rising local demand is pushing Vietnam to become a net importer by 2019, says BMI Research. It notes the rapid ramp-up in the domestic refining sector is insufficient to alleviate the country's deficit in refined fuel. "This will maintain the country's heavy reliance on fuels imports from Asian suppliers, including Singapore, Thailand and South Korea," the firm says. In the first months of the year, Vietnam's crude exports dropped 25% on-year, a trend that could persist on the back of large spending cuts and natural declines at aging fields.
