More Signs of China Oil Demand Declining: Morgan Stanley
[Dow Jones] Morgan Stanley says China's gasoline demand grew less than 2% on-year in last quarter and down almost 5% on-year in December. "Given our view that demand must catch up to supply to fix the oversupply, and gasoline is the most important part of the barrel, any slowing trend from one of the largest sources of growth bodes poorly for the timing of recovery," says the bank. The bank also casts doubt over how much of China's imported crude is being absorbed by end-users despite the robust refinery run rates. It also says China's surge in oil product exports due to waning domestic demand is likely inadequate to prevent a rise in product inventories, adding that strong Chinese refinery runs and exports will add pressure to refineries in other regions.
