Oil Prices Climb on Supply Outlook, Weaker Dollar
By Nicole Friedman
Oil prices gained Tuesday on expectations of a sixth straight weekly decline in U.S. crude supplies and a weaker dollar.
Light, sweet crude for July delivery settled up $2, or 3.4%, at $60.14 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent, the global benchmark, rose $2.19, or 3.5%, to $64.88 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal expect the agency to report that crude supplies fell by 1.8 million barrels last week.
In addition, a slightly weaker dollar supported prices. Oil is priced in dollars and becomes cheaper for buyers using other currencies when the dollar weakens.
