　　天然状态以外部分占全球油页岩市场的四分之三以上。 油页岩是一种沉积岩地层，含有诸如油母岩质、沥青和其它的有机物质。 这种有机物质受热后在不同温度下会产生不同的液态烃产品。 液态碳氢化合物的回收从页岩中完成，这需要先进的钻井技术，例如水力压裂技术。
