DJ Oil Prices Inch Lower After U.S. Stockpile Data
By Timothy Puko
Oil prices slipped Thursday after data showing an unexpected rise in U.S. crude stockpiles.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Thursday that crude stockpiles grew 614,000 barrels. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a 1.4-million-barrel decline in crude supplies, with many noting this is a time of year when stockpiles typically decline.
Light, sweet crude for February delivery settled down 29 cents, or 0.5%, at $53.77 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. For Brent, the global benchmark, the front-month February contract expires at settlement. The more-actively-traded March contract lost 11 cents, or 0.19%, to $56.85 a barrel
