India Takes Lead in Ending Expensive Fuel Subsidies: S&P
[Dow Jones] Asian countries have been working to phase out costly subsidies in the wake of the oil-price crash. Their success in doing so has been a mixed bag, according to S&P Global. "India has taken the lead over its Asian peers in phasing out costly fuel subsidies and accelerating pricing reforms for products," the ratings and research outfit writes. By contrast, China and Pakistan continue to retain government price controls, while Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have capped or ended some subsidies with varying degrees of success.
