Political Tension to Muffle Any Deal in OPEC Algiers Meeting
[Dow Jones] OPEC members will not agree to a production freeze pact at the Wednesday meeting in Algiers as longstanding political tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran will be the main impediment to any deal, says BMI Research. The firm adds the goal of expanding market shares at the wake of strong recovery by the U.S. shale producer will also discourage the cartel from shrinking their output. "Even if a production freeze agreement were signed, this would change very little from a fundamental perspective, given that most OPEC members are already pumping close to their peak capacity," the firm says.
