Crude Glut Keeping Global Oil Products at High Level - BMI
[Dow Jones] The lingering global glut of crude has weakened refining margins, says BMI Research, noting that despite cheap crude prices, refining margins in Europe and the U.S. are averaging lower compared with the same period last year. "However, weaker margins have not substantially slowed throughput, as the downstream remains a key revenue generator for integrated companies while oil prices are weak. This trend continues to support our view of crude glut being refined into a fuels glut," the agency says, noting the high refinery utilization rate in the last 18 months has left U.S. petroleum stocks near record levels while gasoline stocks in China are also at a multiyear high.
