Sasol mulls dropping out of Uzbek GTL project due to price downturn
London (Platts)--7 Mar 2016
South African energy and chemicals group Sasol is considering dropping its participation in a gas-to-liquids plant in Uzbekistan as a result of the low oil price outlook.
Sasol, state-owned Uzbekneftegaz and Malaysia's Petronas have been planning to build a 38,000 b/d GTL project in Uzbekistan to convert part of the former Soviet republic's gas reserves into transport fuel.
"In light of the current economic environment, in February 2016, we decided to review our long-term strategic interest in the Uzbekistan GTL investment," the company said in an earnings statement Monday.
Sasol said it expects to complete its review of the project during the first half of 2016.
