MOL's Synthetic Rubber Feedstock Plant Commences Operation
BUDAPEST--Hungarian oil and gas company MOL Nyrt. said Tuesday that its butadiene plant to produce feedstock material for synthetic rubber commenced operation and that it will start the construction of a new rubber plant this month in a joint venture with Japanese firm JSR Corp.
MOL's new, 130,000 metric tons butadiene plant in Tiszaujvaros, Eastern Hungary, is to launch commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year. The plant will produce feedstock material for synthetic rubber. The plant cost around $150 million.
MOL will start the construction of a new plant this month to manufacture solution polymerization styrene-butadiene rubber, or S-SBR, also in Tiszaujvaros. The plant will have an annual capacity of 60,000 tons. MOL expects completion of the S-SBR plant by the end of 2017. MOL will hold a 49% stake in its joint venture with JSR, with JSR holding the majority stake.
