DJ Russian Oil Tax Could Damage Production
Russian oil production could fall by as much as 200,000 barrels a day in 2016 due to changes in tax legislation, according to the Paris-based watchdog the International Energy Agency. In its monthly report the IEA says Moscow had shelved plans for its Minerals Extraction Tax, but is mulling plans to delay a reduction in oil export duties. The Russian government believes the delay could raise $4.6 billion, but oil companies say that any increase in the tax burden would impact on capital spending and the oil ministry says production could be hit by up to 200,000 b/d.
